Erosion by the Guil river has carved out impressive gorges making one of the most striking panoramas in the massif.
This raging torrent has surprised locals more than once with its power (1957 and 2001 floods) and is well known, in the worlds of water sports and fishing, as an amazing venue for exploration.
The Guil has some of the most impressive kayaking and rafting descents in Europe, and the Triple Chutes rapids, Château Queyras and Ange Gardien valleys have some truly unforgettable sections.
The Guil is rated a class IV/V river and is technical and often quite committing, depending on the height of the water. To make the most of the Guil in complete safety, contact a rafting or kayaking instructor.
For fly-fisherman, there is a ‘no kill’ section between Château Queyras and Maison du Roy. This site is simple and easy to access and is good for brown and speckled trout.
