Natural Park

Doe alps, park in france

A regional park is an inhabited rural area, recognised at the national level for the significant value of its heritage and landscape, and organised around a concerted project of sustainable development founded on the protection and promotion of its natural, cultural and human resources.  France national park is different.

The park is implementing an innovative environmentally aware policy concerning its management as well as its economic, social and cultural development. This is a mountain park with a sustenable development.

This allows residents to live and work in the local area, responds to the environmental challenges and creates employment. Access to the park’s open spaces is entirely free. This recognised seal of approval is beneficial for local development and welcomes the general public.

The programme for the protection and enhancement of the Haut-Guil area, drawn up by the Queyras Regional Natural Park and the commune of Ristolas, was recognised by the government and given formal National Nature Reserve status by decree on 8 February 2007.

The reserve covers 2,300 hectares between altitudes of 1800m and 3300m, stretching from the commune of Ristolas to the foot of Monte Viso. Its exceptional alpine flora and 800 plant species includes an alpine campanula and the Queyras butterwort…
Alpine fauna is equally well represented here, with ptarmigan, golden eagles, chamois and the famous Lanza’s Alpine salamander.

The nature reserve’s aim is to safeguard this flora and fauna while ensuring the compatibility of the activities of the local inhabitants (livestock farming and leisure pursuits in the heart of the countryside).
